Sacred Spondylus depicts a Spondylus shell floating in a deep emerald background, evoking the mystery and symbolic richness of the Manteño culture. The vivid red of the shell powerfully contrasts with the dark greens, as if it were emerging from the depths of the sea—or from an ancestral dream. In the Manteño worldview, the Spondylus shell symbolized abundance, fertility, and spiritual connection to the sea. This piece reinterprets that legacy, giving the shell a solitary, powerful, and almost sacred presence at the center of the canvas. The green background evokes the natural and the sacred, as if the shell were suspended in a ceremonial space. Scheduled for exhibition at Andakulova Gallery, Dubai, from August 1st to 31st, 2025.
